Mexico City Reports Rise in Kidnappings, Extortion
Travelers advised to avoid non-authorized taxis.

By iJet

Mexico City's Security Minister Joel Ortega has confirmed that there is a growing number of express kidnapping groups and said the groups are using new techniques. According to Ortega, there is a new trend of people being abducted in subway cars and stations citywide. Media reports also confirmed that phone extortions have increased and criminals are even targeting senior police authorities.

Although the Mexico City government has increased measures, including the arrest of key leaders, to combat kidnappings, express kidnappings remain high, especially on non-authorized taxis. Avoid the use of the metro system, especially after hours.
